BLUE MOON!!!!!
Oh my goodness, I simply couldn’t have been more thrilled when I saw the photos of my sampler quilt top which has been breathtakingly quilted by the ultra-talented, Judi Madsen of Green Fairy Quilts! This quilt quite literally took my breath away and left me speechless!
My vision for this quilt was to create a modern sampler quilt from a Jelly Roll and Layer Cake, plus one background. I loved the top itself, but Judi has brought this quilt to life with her “out of the box” quilting! I hope you will enjoy reading through her blog posting about the quilt — and please take time to leave a comment on her blog (well, mine, too if you have a moment!)
For all you Jelly Roll and Precuts lovers out there (and that includes all you quilters who LOVE working with scraps!), I designed this quilt to teach EVERY TRICK IN THE BOOK at the National Quilt Museum next September! I’m simply thrilled to be teaching this one-time retreat at the museum over the course of three, fun-filled days of quilting! To find out everything you need to know, simply click HERE.
In the meantime, I hope you’ll stay tuned. Once that gorgeous quilt is back here in Virginia with me, I’ll bind it and send it off to a professional photographer for a modeling session. More photos to come, I promise!
And I want to sincerely give Judi a great big THANK YOU for adding her artistry to this quilt. You certainly outdid yourself and I couldn’t be more excited or over the moon happy with the final results!
UPDATE:I’ve received many emails and comments asking me what type of batting was used in this quilt. Judi used two layers of Fairfield’s Nature-Fil Wool batting at my request. I just LOVE Fairfield’s battings, and their wool batt is one of my particular favorites. I hope you will ask for it by name the next time you are shopping at your local quilt shop, or search for it online.
Exquisite!
Just beautiful. The quilting tops off an already beautiful quilt! Will we see this in your next book? With the pattern, please? hint hint!
Hi Debbie –
Every block comes straight from my last book, Precut Bonanza! I thought it would be fun to make blocks from every size in the book’s block library. I had a ball playing in my precuts!
Wow…….what a show stopper…….Normally, I am not a fan of sampler quilts but I just love your “Blue Moon” design and the idea that it can be done with a jelly roll and layer cake. I like the simplicity of the blue and white.
Then the quilting is just beautiful……Judi is a true artist.
Hi Diann –
Thank you for your thoughtful comments. I totally agree — Judi is a true artist!
This is just beautiful!!!
I am also loving your craftsy class! I have learned a ton!
Thank you!
Hi Christine — thank you so much! I’m also thrilled to know you are learning a lot in the Craftsy class!
This is really beautiful!! You both did a super job. I see award ribbons in you future!
I am going to enter this quilt in some show this year! Wouldn’t it be wonderful if it does win a ribbon?
That is just beautiful! Love the quilting!
Thank you so much, Jan!
So gorgeous! Kimberly, where are you in Virginia? Do you ever give classes? I am definitely going to check out Judi’s blog, too!
Hi Rita! I live in the metro DC area. And I teach classes all over! If you’d like more info, email me directly at moc.omnieylrebmiknull@ylrebmiK.
Wow! OMG the quilting on your quilt Kimberley is awesome and the detail is something else ,Judi goes way beyond talented in her field I’ve never seen a quilt with that magnitude of detail before totally mind boggling.
You said it, Jenny! Her quilting IS mind-boggling!
The blue and white has such a beautiful, clean look to it. Very striking! I order from Green Fairy Quilts all the time–they have the best prices on precuts I’ve ever found. I had no idea she was so talented! Love your quilt, love the quilting and love your Craftsy class!
I agree with you, Marge. I have ordered precuts from Green Fairy Quilts many times and they do have the best prices!
And on a different note, I totally agree about the “clean crisp” look of blue and white. It is a timeless combination!
gorgeous quilt. When are you going to teach another quilt course on craftsy again
Hi Gloria — thank you for asking about my next Craftsy class! I’m happy to say that it will launch within 2 – 3 more weeks. Stay tuned!
This is just gorgeous. I love the blues on the white back ground. Both of you did a fantastic job.
Thank you so much, Connie!
What a stunning quilt top – I love blue and white and this is exquisite – the quilting really sets it apart from any other quilt I have ever seen – great work from you both. Thank you also for your great Craftsy course – am learning so much from it.
Hi Beth245 — Thank you so much, both for your sweet comments about the quilt and also for your comments about the Craftsy class! I appreciate it so much!
Hey, being a Dutch girl from way back, I just love the Blue and White. Leaving Germany in about 3 months, going back to Virginia, have been donating lots of scraps to Birgit and the Ramstein guild. Love to see your new craftsy class. I just made a quilt which has Delfts blue and white, plus embroidery, and old dutch fabric that cam from my mom’s dutch kitchen curtains, I kept them for over 40 years. I really do like the quilting on the design also, I wish I was that talented. Thank you Birgit of sharing this with me.
Hi Grada –
I’m so happy to hear from you! Birgit is one of my dearest, sweetest friends — so that makes you and I friends right away! Where will you be moving to in Virginia? Let me know — I’m here in VA, too. Perhaps we can meet sometime and then Skype with Birgit in Germany!
I loved the blue and white and the quilting is exquisite and I love the class and all the wonderful things being taught.
Great work from you both. Thanks for a great Crafty Course, I am learning so much from your class. And I have never used the material pre- cuts before.
Hi Yankeesweet! I’m so glad you like the quilt — AND the Craftsy class! Yeah — your comment made my day!
This is stunning. Beautiful quilt, beautiful quilting, just amazing to a relative beginner like me. I will aspire to free motion quilt like that someday, but boy do I have a LOT of practice ahead of me.
I’m excited for your possibilities, Lisa B. Don’t ever get discouraged or give up. Just remember that EVERY quilter — no matter how gifted or talented — was once a beginner just like you. It takes practice and determination. You will get there!
Amazing that u were able to make all of these out of strips. Great job and the quilting is also fabulous.
Thank you so much, Judy Y!
Kimberly – you’ve outdone yourself. This is a gorgeous quilt and we’re honored that you chose Fairfield’s Nature-Fil Wool batting to quilt with. Thank you for your support! FYI – did you know our wool batting is now sold on Amazon 🙂
Hi Judy –
Thank you again for your always generous support! I truly love Fairfield battings and use them exclusively in my quilts. And to find out that they are now sold on Amazon? Wonderful!
Very Beatuiful, Kim!
It IS breathtaking indeed!
