Blooms of a different color

Earlier this year I shared the first signs of Spring with you all as the crocuses popped their heads out of the ground in my back yard. For most of March, I enjoyed those purple posies and all their lovely and various shades of violet and periwinkle.

When we returned from our travels, however, we came home to a jungle of green and growing things which quite honestly, are mostly weeds. Hubby actually got the grass cut for the first time this year and will have to rake because it was so high. Although my beloved crocuses and daffodils are long gone, in their place are the most glorious yellow, orange, and red tulips. These bright, bold, in-your-face blooms are unabashed in their beauty and size and have no problem shouting “we are here, we are here, WE ARE HERE !!!!” (Not unlike Horton’s Who’s down in Who-ville.)

Rather than let the lawn mower inadvertantly run over some of the stray blooms which perhaps wandered a bit too far from their flower bed perimeters, I picked them and put them in a vase to enjoy indoors.

Thought you might enjoy them, too!

The words which come to my mind….JUBILENT…..GLORIOUS!

The symmetry is amazing. No artist could capture more beautifully what God has created with His touch.

The fantastic shades of yellow, orange and red mingle in perfect harmony.

Poppy and Tuffy wasted no time in taking advantage of a great photo opportunity.

I found one more surprise waiting for me….

As I came around the side of our house, I was completely surprised by these exquisite bleeding hearts blooming all by themselves amidst a sea of nameless, leafy plants. Delicate and beautiful, the fuscia color almost defies description. Years ago, I tried to grow them outside our home in Virginia. I never had much luck and I finally gave up. And now here they are — growing on their own with no help or coaxing from me or anyone. They grow just because.

I’m wishing you all peace and joy today!

  1. Those colors are astounding!!! and I love your comment about WE’RE HERE!!!! Hubby Rod cleaned the front garden out yesterday & planted pansies and impatiece (is that how you spell the flower?). It was down into the 30’s some nights last week, but they are predicting 93 tomorrow, so I guess we’ll be seeing some bloomin’ soon! Looks like those old winter duds are history as well.

  2. You go, girl! Yep — the winter clothes are done for now, at least until next season. Did you ever get your closets/drawers switched over to your spring/summer wardrobe? A daunting task, but it feels so great when its done! 🙂

  3. Kim,
Thanks for the beautiful pictures – your tulips reminded me of Scott and Sophie’s wedding colors! Love you guys –

  4. Hi, Cheri! It’s great to hear from you — we’ve been out of touch for so long! The colors are exactly like Scott and Sophie’s wedding — and it was gorgeous! How are you all doing? We’ve missed hearing from you…

    Love, K
