We made our family’s secret recipe Chex Party Mix tonight so I could take a few photographs for the new book. Since I’m among friends, I thought I’d share it with you in advance of the book’s release. Once again, our kitchen has that wonderful savory, spicy smell that heralds the holidays for our family. I hope you’ll try making some of this absolutely delicious party mix to share with your friends and family this holiday season. Remember: it’s not just for Christmas. Why not make some ahead this week to pass around during the football games on Thanksgiving?
Kimberly’s Nuts and Bolts
Preheat over to 350 degrees.
Mix in bowl:
1½ cups of Rice Chex
1½ cups of Corn Chex
1 cup of Wheat Chex (optional)
2 cups of pretzel sticks
1½ cups of Cheerios
2/3 cup Spanish peanuts
2/3 cup Cashew halves and pieces
Combine:
¼ cup melted margarine
¼ cup vegetable oil
2 tsps garlic powder
1 tsps Lawry’s seasoned salt
3 Tbls Worcestershire sauce
1 tsp Tabasco sauce (or more, to taste)
Poor liquid mixture over crunchy mixture. Toss thoroughly to coat. Spread out on large baking sheet and bake at 350 degrees for six minutes. Remove from oven, stir thoroughly. Bake another six minutes.
Poor out on flat brown paper grocery bags to soak up excess oil mixture. Let cool thoroughly. Store in gallon size storage bags. Enjoy munching!

Question: Do you do each batch separately? What’s your break point for multiple batches at once? In other words, is doubling the recipe OK, but tripling is out of control?
Can’t write any more — racing out the door to buy ingredients!
Dear LynnEl;
It is such a GREAT recipe — fast and easy, and absolutely YUMMY! Do try it; you’ll be the hit of your family. You can separate all the batches into separate gallon bags and store ahead. All the dry ingredients listed will make about nine batches. I’m happy to share my best recipes; just wait to you see all the recipes I’ve got in the book for y’all! 🙂
Pat — GREAT question! You can certianly double the batch IF (and that’s a big “if”) you have a big enough sheet pan and a large oven. My current oven is older and a bit small; and I find that if I make the layer on the pan too thick, the cereal doesn’t cook evenly enough which causes some of it to turn out crunchy and some turns out soggy. But give a double batch a try and it will probably come out just fine. Let me know what you think!!!
😉
