Hey everyone! I’m sorry I’ve been absent these past few days. Gosh, it has sure been a busy week for me. How about for you?
I’m gearing up for a trip to Bloomington, Indiana next week to present a lecture and workshop for the talented members of the Bloomington Quilters Guild. I can’t wait! I’ll be teaching them all how to make “Perfect Pinless Pinwheels and Flying Geese.” That’s right — absolutely painless pinwheels with perfect points without pins! (Try to say that five times fast….) And just wait until they see how to make perfect flying geese with no math, no wasted fabric, and no stress. I’ll enjoy seeing them experience an Oprah “ah-ha!” moment!
In the meantime, I promised to share some great photos from our quilting group’s shopping trip to Sarasota last week. One of the shops we stopped at was The Cotton Patch Quilt Shop where I met owner, Laura Flynn, and one of her friendly staffers, Mary Sue. The Cotton Patch is a fabulous shop with lots of terrific class choices and gorgeous fabrics. If you are ever in the Tampa/Sarasota/Bradenton area, this shop is not to be missed!
Mary Sue cuts fabric for Charm.
I had the fun and pleasure to meet Deb Steere, who happened to be visiting in the shop that day from snowy, wintry Iowa. What a neat and creative gal! She was in Florida on vacation with friends, but they opted not to come to the shop that day. Too bad — they sure missed out on the fun! 🙂 I was happy to sign and personalize a book for her. Hey Deb — hope you’re having fun making Jelly Roll quilts! (Send me photos….)
Shop owner, Laura Flynn, and sweet Mary Sue. I loved meeting these fun and enthusiastic gals! And check out that buffet of color in the background. Fabrics yummy enough to eat!
JoAnn and Jan — happy from a delightful day of shopping and lunching!
Can’t wait to head back to the Cotton Patch….. see you there!
PS — If you have an extra minute or two, hop on over to the American Quilter’s Society home page and check out the featured book right now. Woo hoo!
I am busy teaching a couple of classes so have not had time to make anything from the book. I have however read thru it over and over again!! Great looking patterns! By the way the one posted above with flying geese and pinwheels is beautiful!!
Again it was a pleasure to meet you and I will now be looking for any new books or patterns you put out!! You are one talented lady!!
thanks again
Deb
Deb — Thank you so much for your sweet comments about the book. I’m really so glad I had the chance to get to know you at the shop last week — what a lucky break for me! Next time you come back to Florida, we must make a date to meet there again. Hope to see you soon — maybe at the AQS Show in Iowa in October? 😉
Pinwheels & Flying Geese is a wonderful pattern. The quilt I made for my grandson is stunning. It was started in your class a few years ago & “grew” to be full bed sized. I’m in love with the colors you have in your quilt at the top of the blog — semi French provicial!
Oh, you ladies look like you had a wonderful time & the Cotton Patch looks like a marvelous place! Hope you had a great time & got lots of goodies to make lots more goodies. Speaking of snow, we don’t have any, but the temp is 17 degrees, with a wind-chill of I-don’t-even-want-to-know.
Ooooh, Pat! Those wintry temperatures sound positively bone-chilling! Hope you have a favorite quilt (and your hubby!) to cuddle with and keep warm! I’m so glad you loved making those pinwheels. They are such fun to make, aren’t they? I think they are addictive! In my next post, I’ll have to show you what I did with the leftovers from my most recent pinwheel quilt…
Make sure you stop by Shiisa Quilts in Bloomington while you are there! It is definitely one of my favorites and Janet the owner is the greatest. Tell her Rhonda sent ya!
What a cute quilt shop! I have a bunch of flannel baby comforters to make for up-coming baby showers. Went on line to The Cotton Patch & found adorable fabric from Deb Strain’s Love U line. I can’t wait to get it! Thanks so much for letting all of us know about this great store.
Kimberly,
I love that quilt! I have blue and yellow fabric like that. Now I know what to do with it!
I am i n s p i r e d !
Kim, I can’t believe you’ll be here tomorrow! Doesn’t it seem like forever ago that we were making these plans? Can’t wait to see the new book!
Rhonda… thanks for the kudos… we missed you on Saturday!
Oh sounds like a wonderful day! I even spotted my friend’s quilt hanging on the wall. Beautiful shop…loved poking around even if only through the monitor.
